Binchoyaki
About This Spot
Stepping into Binchoyaki feels like finding a quiet corner of Japan tucked into Sacramento’s vibrant 10th Street scene. The pace here is unhurried, inviting you to slow down and savor each moment amid soft lighting and the gentle hum of intimate conversation. It’s a place where neighbors and visitors alike gather to share simple pleasures and discover flavors crafted with genuine care.
The atmosphere at Binchoyaki carries a warmth that’s both approachable and quietly sophisticated. Whether seated at the bar or outside on the patio, you sense a thoughtful balance between tradition and creativity in every detail, from the way the skewers are grilled over glowing coals to the carefully curated pickles and small plates that accompany them.
Here, dining feels like a series of deliberate discoveries. The menu invites sharing and savoring—bites that surprise with layers of texture and subtle seasoning, like smoky yakitori, crisp rice surprises, and unexpected touches such as bacon wrapped mochi or tender morsels of tofu. These are dishes that might seem familiar but carry nuances that reveal themselves the longer you linger.
Conversations flow easily alongside a modest but satisfying selection of Japanese beers and thoughtfully prepared sides, encouraging moments that linger over flavor and company rather than rushing toward the next dish. It’s the kind of place where the little details—the nuanced balance of grilled shishito peppers, the richness of a well-made broth, the crispness of pickled vegetables—shape the experience as much as the main offerings.
Binchoyaki’s charm lies not in grand gestures but in the quiet confidence of a kitchen that respects its roots while inviting guests to explore a nuanced world of Japanese small plates. It’s a spot that encourages you to lean in, taste slowly, and return again—each visit unfolding new layers in both food and atmosphere.

AMAZING experience. Everything is so delicious!!! The skewers might seem like simple dishes but theres something so unique and flavorful about each one. You can tell a lot of care is put into creating the menu. Can't wait to go back again!!!

Great Japanese food place downtown. Not a huge menu, but the yaki/grilled meats and sashimi were delicious. Really interesting mix of pickled vegetables that sets it apart from any Japanese food place you'll find in the area and made me feel like I was back in Osaka rather than Sacramento.

Delicious grilled meats. I highly recommend the liver and tail. (Trust me.) Good Japanese beer selection. The outdoor patio is nice. I thought the corn dogs were a bit overpriced considering what you're getting.

I only leave reviews when things are really good or really bad! This place was fire. It was all good but make sure you absolutely get pork belly skewers, krispy rice, mochi bacon, and the sweet potato, all those were 10/10. The chicken thigh skewers and curry fries are also super good!! Their sushi is some of the best I’ve ever had, but they only serve at lunch, so keep that in mind. Pictured is Yukon potato’s(sweet potatoes better) and pork belly and then the krispy rice! We sat at the counter and it was super fun to watch them cook. I’m a tough critic and this place exceeded all expectations.

This is my 2nd time here and we tried some new things as well as stuff we have had before. The menu is expansive with a lot of options so we had some skewers as well as some main dishes all of which we shared. Some of the skewers are a little pricey for how much food you get and our server wasn't the clearest explaining it but everything we ordered was tasty. We really enjoyed the shishito peppers, hamachi collar and the chicken wings. Hands down our favorite was the beef curry cheese fries! Big chunks of beef, lots of sauce, cheesy and simply delicious! I'd go back just for this dish alone. The Yakinigiri was also delicious as well! Enjoyed our meal and definitely would go back again the next time I'm im town!

I saw jar of house made plum wine right after came in, then I got good feelings. We had veggie set, this part was average, I would suggest to switch garlic and onion to something like corn or mushrooms, just feel that $25 for a set should have more veggies. The rest are all amazing, the chicken lunch bento was very tasty! The house made pickle was amazing! Whoever grilled the meat, understand the meat! I have to mention the service, she’s great! Friendly and helpful.
